Greetings!

Welcome to the first edition of "Collie Rescue News."
In anticipating yet another year of growth, it becomes increasingly important for us to keep in touch with the people who contribute to the health and well-being of Collie Rescue, Inc. "Collie Rescue News" is our way of staying in touch with all of you.

Special thanks goes out to Patrick Walsh for piloting this newsletter and to Kathy Austin and Gretchen Bare for their contributions of content!!

We had a fantastic 2006! We covered a lot of ground, helped a significant number of animals, (66 Rescued!) We made great progress in establishing a solid reputation for reliable and responsible stewardship of animals in need.

As 2007 starts, Collie Rescue, Inc. steps forward into its second year of operation. And to start the new year right, it’s essential to give credit where credit is due. Everything we've achieved is the direct result of the combined efforts of our growing family of volunteers--people who have stepped up to the plate to help fill a need and make a difference. Collie Rescue, Inc. is only able to achieve its mission through the love and support of all of you.

To our foster and adoptive families, to those of you who have contributed so generously to the financial health of the organization, to everyone who has volunteered time to transport, fundraise, groom, walk, and assist in providing love and care for the beautiful creatures placed in our charge —thank you all so much for everything you have done and continue to do. We simply could not manage without you, and we are grateful to have your ongoing support!

 Volunteer Spotlite
 Emily and Eric Lloyd!

This month, the award goes to Emily and Eric Lloyd! Emily and Eric (and their faithful feline companion, Nevada) moved from Wisconsin to the Northern VA area this past year. Since joining our team, they have transported, cared for and walked a number of our rescues. Emily works in Human Resources at ICFI and Eric is a software engineer for Lockheed Martin. In their spare time, they are both musicians. We were lucky enough to find Emily and Eric when they answered our ad on Craigs List for volunteers. Emily has now stepped up to be an Adoption Coordinator for Collie Rescue.
Thanks so much youse guys!!! (that's how they talk in Wisconsin)

 Rex Needs Your Help!

Picture of Rex
Because most people prefer to adopt younger animals, Rex doesn't have very much of a chance finding a forever adoptive home. So we’re looking for one very special guardian angel for Rex—someone who will give him a forever “foster” home where he can love and be loved, and receive the care and companionship that he needs.

Rex has gained weight since he came to us, so you can't feel his ribs any longer. He loves sleeping in the sun and spending time with his other collie friends.
He doesn't do well on slick floors in the house, but is able to get up and lay down without too much problem. He is an old man, but certainly not ready to give up yet. He still loves life and lets you know he wants his cookies.

 Chloe's Success Story!
 In Her Own Words

Chloe It’s never easy when your only family member becomes steadily more ill with time. But when you love someone, you have to love them for better or worse, in sickness and in health. That’s how it was with my former owner.

There were so many times in my life that I wished for someone who could run and play with me, or take me for long walks, but my former owner was too ill to do those things. Still, I was content to be with her for the time that we had, because I loved her, and she loved me.

My owner was taken to the hospital in October of last year. I waited patiently for her to return, but she never did. That’s when I was sent to Collie Rescue and met my new human, Kathy.
